A free white label SMS service from Singtel will be launched in India in the coming weeks.

The Indian telco on Tuesday confirmed the launch of the Singtel SMS (simplified voice) service, which will allow consumers to call on their smartphones in their homes.

The service will cost just Rs.2,200 for a single line, Rs.3,000 for a two line plan and Rs.5,000 per month.

The SIM card is pre-loaded and activated by the phone user.

It has a free voice call feature.

Singtel said the service will provide consumers with free SMS messages for a limited time on December 30, 2016, and for a duration of one month on January 5, 2017.

Consumers will also be able to subscribe to the service through an SMS app.

The service is expected to be rolled out to other telcos and other carriers in the next few weeks.

It is also being rolled out in other markets such as Malaysia, Singapore, Australia and New Zealand.

Sing, a subsidiary of Telenor Group, said it plans to launch other SIM-free services in the near future.

Singtel CEO and co-founder N Srinivasan told The Indian Express that the SingTel SMS is part of a wider initiative to bring SMEs back into the telecom market.
